On April 21, the Department of Health Policies and Regulations, National Health Commission of the People's Republic of China, released two mandatory national occupational health standards. The Diagnostic Criteria for Occupational Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, which was led by the Department of Occupational Diseases, Peking University Third Hospital, was approved for release and will officially come into effect on August 1, 2025. This standard is the first diagnostic standard formulated for occupational musculoskeletal disorders following the adjustment of the Classification and Catalogue of Occupational Diseases in 2024.
Carpal tunnel syndrome is a median nerve injury caused by long-term repetitive or forceful work of the wrist, commonly seen in workers in industries such as shipbuilding and related equipment manufacturing, electronic equipment manufacturing, and furniture manufacturing. As a National Key Clinical Specialty and the director unit of the Beijing Occupational Health Examination and Occupational Health Surveillance Quality Control Center, the Department of Occupational Diseases at Peking University Third Hospital, relying on years of clinical practice, scientific research accumulation, and standardization work experience, was led by Professor Li Shuqiang, in collaboration with Beijing Jishuitan Hospital and multiple domestic occupational disease prevention and control institutions, taking 3 years to complete the drafting of the standard.
