On the afternoon of February 27, 2025, the kickoff meeting for the National Key R&D Program's "High-performance Functional and Intelligent Materials" priority project, titled "Key Technologies for Additive Manufacturing of Zirconium-Niobium Alloy Knee Joint Prosthesis and Its Surface Functionalization and Modification," led by Professor Tian Hua from the Department of Orthopedics at Peking University Third Hospital, was held at the hospital.
The project aims to comprehensively enhance the biocompatibility, mechanical stability, and durability of zirconium-niobium alloy knee prostheses through the regulation of microstructures and optimization of surface functions, effectively improving patient treatment outcomes and quality of life while breaking the foreign monopoly on high-performance knee prosthesis technology.
During the kickoff meeting, Wang Jiancheng, Director of the Research Department of Peking University Health Science Center, Jin Changxiao, Party Secretary of Peking University Third Hospital, and Professor Wang Luning from the University of Science and Technology Beijing delivered speeches. Project leader Professor Tian Hua gave a detailed introduction to the project’s background, objectives, and expected outcomes, emphasizing the key challenges that need to be addressed. Each research group presented their implementation plans. The expert panel affirmed the project’s innovation, research foundation, team composition, and application prospects, offering constructive suggestions and recommendations.
