On October 28, 2025, Professor Lang Ning's team from Peking University Third Hospital published their latest research findings in the international authoritative journal Radiology, titled: "MRI-based Habitat Analysis for the Prediction of Progression-Free Survival in Primary Spinal Tumors". The biological behavior of spinal tumors is highly heterogeneous, and traditional "bulk tumor feature" analysis is often obscured by internal heterogeneity, making it difficult to capture high-risk areas closely related to progression. The research team proposed a novel strategy of "Nested Habitat Analysis," which uses the lesion's MRI features as input and iteratively extracts "sub-regions" and "micro-regions" through two layers, realizing a hierarchical resolution of the tumor's internal spatial heterogeneity. Chief Attending Physician Wang Qizheng from the Department of Radiology, Peking University Third Hospital, and Professor Zhang Yang from the University of California are the co-first authors of the paper, and Professor Lang Ning is the corresponding author.
