On the afternoon of December 19, 2025, the National Health Commission of the People’s Republic of China held a press conference to introduce the situation related to seasonal solar terms and health (Winter Solstice). Li Shuiqing, Director of the Pain Department at Peking University Third Hospital, attended the press conference and answered questions from reporters regarding the prevention and treatment of common pain.

At the meeting, Li Shuiqing pointed out that painkillers should not be taken arbitrarily for a long time; the risk of addiction primarily exists with opioid drugs, and using them under the guidance of a doctor can significantly reduce the risk. He suggested that patients with recurrent migraines identify and avoid triggers and pointed out that the claim that "pain is a natural phenomenon of aging" and thus does not require treatment is not entirely correct. For people over 50 years old or those with lower immunity, he recommended receiving the herpes zoster vaccine for prevention. Li Shuiqing emphasized that pain can be divided into acute and chronic types, and one should not simply "endure" pain; it requires a scientific response and careful management.
