Recently, the team led by Professor Jiang Dong from the Department of Sports Medicine at Peking University Third Hospital, together with the teams led by Researcher Wang Jianjun and Associate Researcher Fan Qingrui from the Technical Institute of Physics and Chemistry of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, published research findings titled "Precisely regulated physically-crosslinked carriers enable synergetic release of bioactive factors for MSC-mediated cartilage regeneration" in Bioactive Materials (IF: 20.3).
The study developed a physically crosslinked silk fibroin platform constructed through a freeze-assembly strategy. Without using chemical crosslinkers, the platform enables precise regulation of drug release from 1 to 35 days and supports co-delivery of a hydrophilic mesenchymal stem cell affinity peptide (MAP) and the hydrophobic chondrogenic inducer kartogenin (KGN), creating an optimized biomaterial for synergistic recruitment and pro-differentiation. It offers a new approach for cell-homing therapy in cartilage regeneration.
Dou Yun and Zhang Fangxue, doctoral students in the Department of Sports Medicine at Peking University Third Hospital, and Jiang Zhiruo, a master's student, are co-first authors. Jiang Dong, Fan Qingrui, and Wang Jianjun are co-corresponding authors.
